Project Clear Horizons

Giving glasses new purpose, and people new perspective.

Project Description

We launched Project Clear Horizons to support underserved communities with limited access to vision care. This growing initiative has already given new life to over 500 pairs of gently used prescription glasses and continues to expand. By collecting eyewear that would otherwise be discarded, we have reduced environmental waste while empowering individuals to see clearly, learn better, and live more independently. We believe that no matter where you live, the gift of sight should be within reach.

Project Story

During a 2022 trip to Africa, Reid noticed his guide struggling to read basic road signs. When Reid commented to his guide about it, the guide explained that vision care – including such basic things as prescription glasses – were hard to come by. Several months later, while sitting in the sauna at his local gym, Reid met someone from Zimbabwe who was in town receiving eye treatment at a nearby hospital who shared a similar story: access to vision care was out of reach for many in his home country. Those two conversations stuck. Inspired to help make a difference, Reid launched Project Clear Horizons with the help of Sunny Chen to address this gap. For his efforts, Reid was honored as the 2025 Humanitarian of the Year Award Winner by The Gerald Tanaka Khosa Foundation for his impact on the greater Chinhoyi area, and he also received ReSoap’s Distinguished Global Leadership in Service Medal in recognition of his global leadership and communication.

“No matter where you are, whether it is the U.S. or rural Africa, clear vision should not be a luxury. It should be a basic right.”
